Louis Wain was an artist popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s for his drawings and paintings of cats. It… was a different time. This psychedelic abstraction is presumably symptomatic of his severe schizophrenia, as his pre-diagnosis cat renderings tended to look more like this. Some folks speculate that the onset of Wain’s schizophrenia was precipitated by toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that can be contracted from cats. Isn’t it ironic. Don’thcha think?
